What I want from my 30's

I’m turning 30 … in 23 days.

I don’t know how I feel about it either. I thought I’d be 20 forever! But 30 is practically here and I’ve been reflecting a lot about all that happened in my 20’s. I’ve also been thinking about what I’d like to happen in my 30’s.

Here are some things that have happened in my 20’s:

I worked a lot of jobs! I’m going to post soon when internet allows, about all the jobs I’ve had but I have had at least 6-7 various types of jobs that I’ve done in my 20’s. God was faithful in giving me just what I needed at different times in my life.

I made some wonderful life long friends in my 20’s; friends who love Christ, friends who encourage me and friends who have stood by me during some really hard times.

My family has grown. A lot. I have 4 nephews and 1 baby on the way (not my baby my sister-in-law’s baby). I’ve also grown to love and appreciate my family more over my twenties.

I got married! Dave really is my best friend and he has loved me through a lot. I’m king of surprised by the amount of traveling we have done and now living abroad.

Dark Days
I had some major rebellious years in my 20’s too. God was always present with me but I wasn’t always faithful to The Lord. I’ve seen God reach me at my lowest point and restore me to where I am today. I'm still in awe of His restoration power!

I’ve been thinking though – I did a lot of things in my 20’s! A lot!

And now I’m here thinking what do I want from my 30’s? And here is what I want:

I want it to be less of ‘doing lots and lots of good’ to more of knowing Christ. I want to spend more time in prayer with Him, to be transformed from the inside out, to bear the Fruit of The Spirit in my life and to love others like Him.

I know that is a huge and mighty goal and really one that I can't do unless The Lord helps me.

I did a Bible study on the life of Christ and the thing from that huge Bible study that stood out to me was that Christ didn’t call his 12 disciples unto good works but Christ called the 12 disciples to Himself. And that’s what I want! I want to be close to Jesus.

SO that is what I hope to get in my 30’s, friends. A more intimate walk with Christ and I hope you want and desire that for your life too!

on a less mature note I still want to celebrate big every. birthday. in my 30's! I LOVE LOVE LOVE birthdays!

  1. Happy early birthday!! My 30th isn't too far off either (well, two years but that's going to go by fast I'm sure) - it's so weird to think about!

  2. Our birthdays must be really close together, because mine's coming up, too! I can still claim early 20s though, but I always want to celebrate big for birthdays. And I think they are good occasions, particularly the milestone ones, for looking back at what you've done and looking forward at what you want to do, just as you've done here.

  3. Oh my gosh I am a year and a half away from 30! Let me know how it is ha ha ha! That is what I am reaching for too Beka to be closer to God and emulate His charity. To love the good and bad in every person and our worst enemies. It is a mighty goal indeed.

  4. Ahhh love this list!!! I hope you have an AMAZING birthday (I know it's still 23 days away…) but love that you want to celebrate each year with a passion!! xoxo

This post absolutely resonated in my heart. I'll be 30 this October and I have very similar goals to know Christ deeper. Although in my 20s I've only had one job. I've been in pharmacy for 10 years! But I've recently made the jump to personal trainer! I love it! Still in pharmacy so my 30 goal is also to be a personal trainer full time!

  6. Thanks, Kelly! 30 does come up fast but that's ok! I hope you enjoy the rest of your 20's!

  7. When is your birthday? I didn't know you were in your early 20's! You have done a lot for being so young and I think that is really neat.

Yes to celebrating big for birthdays!

  8. I'll let you know how it is! I can't imagine it being too different than life is now. It's neat to hear that we have similar goals!!

  9. Hi Jess! I'm glad to hear that these passions ring true for your heart too! What caused the big change from pharmacy to trainer? Both seem like really great careers!

  10. PS - what's your blog URL? I'm having trouble finding it on my Myanmar phone :)

  11. Mine is the 21st of this month!

  12. Wooo hooo for birthdays!! This was such a fun post to read and I would love to read your job post- 6 to 7 jobs is crazy! Also, I LOVE that last part where you pointed out that Jesus didn't call his followers unto good works but rather unto Himself... so simple yet SO profound!

  13. I have had the post about my jobs written before I moved to Myanmar. I need to edit and post it :) and yes the reminder of called to Jesus was something I really needed to hear!
